Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s this March and improve reading comprehension with our St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt activity. The completed puzzle posters will brighten your classroom walls and bulletin boards. Learn about St. Patrick and the history, food and symbols of St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget those tricky little leprechauns!

This activity is great for individuals, pairs or as a small group activity. Engage your students’ artistic flair with the wide range of activities provided in this resource.

Activity Purpose

The purpose of this resource is to provide an interactive and engaging way to learn about St. Patrick’s Day and the traditions and history surrounding this event. This activity involves reading comprehension strategies such as cloze reading (using context clues), visualizing, organizing information, and finding specific details.

As students read the fact cards, they have to hunt for information. This information-seeking process will involve reading and re-reading of the clue cards. The activity, therefore, mirrors the close reading skills you will be teaching your students throughout the year.

The students then synthesize their knowledge and understanding using the St Patrick’s Day puzzle poster activity.

In this St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt puzzle you will receive:

  • Eight St. Patricks’s Day Fact Cards.
    • What is St. Patrick’s Day
    • Who is St. Patrick? (1)
    • Who is St. Patrick? (2)
    • St. Patrick’s Miracles
    • The colour/color of St. Patrick’s Day
    • St. Patrick’s Day Food
    • St. Patrick’s Day Symbols
    • Leprechauns
  • Six puzzle pieces with a range of artistic and writing activities.
  • Answers for applicable puzzle pieces.

These puzzles come in two sizes. Choose the size that fits your purpose!

***When you download this resource, it comes with both British and US English spellings and printing sizes.***
