These Phonics and Structured Literacy teaching slides have been created to specifically support the teaching and learning of ten vowel teams: ai, ay, ea, ie, igh, oa, oe, ew, ow, and ue. This teaching tool could be used as a warm-up at the start of a structured literacy session, as revision or as a whole class lesson.
Both PowerPoint and Google Slides teaching practice slides are included (172 slides in total).
The consonant patterns included in this teaching slides set are: ai, ay, ea, ie, igh, oa, oe, ew, ow, and ue.
The purpose of this teaching tool is to give additional practice to phonological awareness skills.
For each vowel team in this 172-slide set, there is:
- a short explanation of the vowel team letters and the sound they represent.
- three examples with pictures of the word, sound and spelling.
- a mix-and-match vocabulary activity, where students match the words containing the vowel teams with the correct picture.
- an illustrated sentence containing 2-4 of the target vowel team sounds, which can also be used as a dictated sentence.
- an iSpy activity for students to find all the pictures and words containing the target vowel team.
