When to Use Paragraphs | A Step by Step Guide for Year 1-3
NZ$6.00
Description
This resource teaches the skill of paragraphing in writing.
This resource introduces younger students (working at levels 1 and 2 of the curriculum, or years 1-3) to what paragraphs are, why we use them, and when we use them. It is designed to help students learn, remember and practice when to separate their sentences into paragraphs.
This skill is often challenging for students when they begin their paragraphing journey, so all efforts have been made to make this resource a simple way for them to learn this concept.
In this resource, you will find the following:
-
Teaching slides that explain what a paragraph is
-
Paragraph rules in a simplified form
-
A mnemonic with a rhyme to help students remember when to use paragraphs (optional – introduce your students to the popular MC Hammer song ‘STOP – Hammer Time’, which our mnemonic is modelled after)
-
A poster to be displayed or added to learning workbooks
-
I Do, We Do, and You Do activities – following the gradual release model, students can learn and be guided to create paragraphs independently.
-
I Do and We Do activities are included within the teaching slides
-
Four You Do activity sheets are also included
-
This resource uses the gradual release of responsibility model (I do, we do, you do).
-
The ‘I Do’ section of this resource is designed to be taught by the teacher, working through the exemplar pages and following the process.
-
The ‘We Do’ section provides text opportunities for the teacher and students to work through the process together.
-
The ‘You Do’ sections allow students to create paragraphs independently.
