Focus Phonemes and Graphemes:
This text has a particular focus on v_e split digraph words, including a_e, e_e, i_e, and o_e split digraphs.
Examples include athlete, compete, backstroke, celebrate, pride and time.

Students will also require some knowledge of how to break words into syllables and syllable-breaking patterns.
 
  • This decodable text also aligns with the New Zealand Ready to Read Phonics Plus Scope and Sequence used in many schools. The focus phonemes-to-graphemes in this text align with the Tupu phase, split digraphs.
