This Te Reo Sight Words BOOM resource includes 117 te reo Māori word cards, and superhero and BOOM cards to play the sight word game ‘BOOM!’ Help your students build their sight word fluency while also engaging them in this fun physical activity. This resource would be useful in both bilingual and full immersion Māori medium classrooms, as well as an introduction to te reo Māori words for English speaking classes!

The aim of the BOOM card game is for children to read as many words as they can from a card stack before drawing a BOOM card. If they draw a BOOM card, they lose their cards and must start again. This game can be played in pairs or by individuals.

Further directions are included in the product.

Sight word recognition improves reading fluency, allowing the student to focus their efforts on the more mentally demanding task of reading comprehension. Your students can play this game for homework, during guided reading lessons, as a literacy circle activity or as an early finisher activity.
