The Pink Umbrella – School Journal Level 3 November 2014

The narrative follows a boy named Sam (Samuelu) whose grandmother, Mama, has recently moved from Samoa to live with his family in New Zealand. Sam is deeply embarrassed by her, specifically her “jumbo-sized” neon pink umbrella and her habit of wielding a bush knife (sapelu) to cut the grass in the front yard.
