Hana Kōkō – School Journal Level 3 November 2019

At a local New Zealand farmers’ market, a Māori father creatively reinterprets the tradition of Santa Claus by dressing as Hana Kōkō, wearing a pōhutukawa-printed shirt and a kākahu kura instead of a heavy wool suit. Despite initial skepticism from his whānau and disapproval from the market manager, his summer-appropriate attire and generosity with jars of jam and handmade flax flowers successfully spread the Christmas spirit to the community.
